I realized it has been a long time since I posted in my Blog and I have a few minutes to jot down some thoughts.
Over the past year I have expanded my business into new areas of the knife world. I had been friends with many knife makers that I did not purchase from only because I felt I was not ready to move into a certain aspect of the knife market, but that all changed early this year when I decided to foster those relationships and see where it led.
I have added more than two dozen new Makers to my site in the past 3 months alone. Some of these are Makers who dominate in their field and others are Makers who very successful and are just now taking off in popularity.
The knfie community is a small one, a cottage industry in any country where makers create both what they like and what they think will sell. I have been around this community for well over a decade and have no plans on going anywhere else. I hope to continue to expand over the next several years by earning the trust of both the Makers I represent and the customers who purchase from me. So far it is going great.
Particulary exciting is my ongoing relationship with Dave Curtiss of Curtiss knives. He is continueing to come out with new designs almost monthly. You can see his very popular Nano model on my website frequently. http://www.forthenrycustomknives.com/product-view/714/Curtiss-Knives---V2-Nano.html
I continue to offer more custom and unique Dozier knives than anyone in the business. Bob and I have been dicussing an Exclusive design just for Fort Henry Custom Knives.
I was approached by Zubeng Forge at the Blade show this year. I had read many positive reviews of their work for more than a year and was intrigued by their classic styles and of course knowing that Master Chen is one of the only Makers in the world who creates his own Tamahagane steel (from scratch as we say in the South). I was presented with several of their knives and most have sold in only one month. I am excited to explore this relationship further and to join with Master Chen to share his unique product with the world. You may see some Zubeng Forge items on my website if you hurry. http://www.forthenrycustomknives.com/category/132/ZUBENG-Forge.html
I was also very pleased to start doing business with Brian Tighe. Brian is a humble and enjoyable maker to talk with. His folding knives are inspired and amazingly well made. I sold the only Tighe Rod (an Exclusive for the Blade Show) within a week. I love his latest Nirk Tighe design and have chosen to carry one of those as well as offer them for sale. http://www.forthenrycustomknives.com/category/141/Brian-Tighe.html
I will try and post more here when I am inspired.
Thanks
Vince

Ebay Auctions
I will clearing out some knives that I have had for a while using Ebay. I will start all these with a Buy It Now Price or start the Auction at $0.99 cents.
This evening I listed some MORA knives from Sweden. I will try to keep the Okapi knives listed but it looks like my importer for these is not going to be carrying them any longer so I will have to look for another source.
Also, the SVORD knives are selling well, since they are Forged and have a hand sharpened Convex blade shape they are excellent cutters.
As with all Production knives I sell, I sharpen and strop these for Free. It doesn't matter what you pay for a knife if it won't cut when you get it, right?
Check these out - go to my website's Front page and look under My Ebay Auctions - http://www.forthenrycustomknives.com

INCOMING!!
OOOPS - no need to dive down to the floor. I just wanted to let you know what I am expecting and when.
This week
I am expecting knives from Dan Crotts any day now. There will only be 6 knives in this order and 2 were Custom Orders that I submitted so that only leaves 4 to sell. Once you see them listed don't wait to email me with your preference. Also, if you want to Custom order a Crotts knife send me a note and let's get started.
I will be listing the EXOTAC nanoStriker this week. I got the MatchCaps up on the Site and have already sold a couple. These are excellent tools that you should really take a look at, I am also including a BONUS with every purchase, see the item Description.
I have some more great knives by Makers such as Ralph Freer and Ed Kalfayan to put on the site. These are very unique blades and sheath.
Coming Soon
I will be adding a new Maker to my Site - Mike Malosh. Mike makes incredible knives that represent the best value in a Scagle style forged blade. I custom ordered these knives from Mike more than 10 months ago (as a side note Mike is COMPLETELY SOLD OUT for 2010). There will be something for any outdoor enthusiast, both large and small.
I spoke with a Maker today who I am very excited to be working with, John Cohea. John makes some of the absolute best period Knives and Hawks that you will find anywhere. Also, John has almost finished the first part of a two part DVD on Rawhide Sheath making. I have talked him into making a new style War Hawk and a matching Belt knife. These will be professionally photographed for submission into a coming knife periodical. Take a look at John's work - I predict in a very short time John will be as highly thought of as any period knife maker.
http://jmcknives.blademakers.com/ John Cohea - a Maker to watch.
I purchased a small collection of knives by Rudy Ruana recently. Some of these will go into my own collection but I will also be listing some for sale on my Site. If you have any Ruana knives that you want to sell or Trade give me a shout.
I have another large order of Bob Dozier knives coming soon. I ordered these more than 15 months ago and there will be some custom beauties in the group. The last order I received 15 knives and only a couple are left to put up on the Site, all the other Sold quickly. When you see these listed, don't wait too long or they will be all gone.
Finally, I am sending my order to Russia for more ROS Arms knives. I have sold out of most of my stock. Almost every Customer who buys 1 ROS ARms knife from me comes back to purchase a second, the quality is that good! Just a great value for a good outdoor knife. If you see a Model on my Site or any other Site and you want me to place an Order for you don;t hesitate to email me and I will give you a great deal.
Drop by my website soon at - http://www.forthenrycustomknives.com

NEW Format to BLOG - UPDATE
Well, it's been too long since I posted to my Blog. I want to start with saying I am going to try something different and start posting updates to my Website here for those that might be interested.
Let's start with a Gorgeous New Ed Fowler MS Pronghorn - just listed it and it is priced to Sell. I love Ed's work but since his backlog is seven years I never got around to ordering one. If you are like me here is your chance to own one.
Also, Got in two Ron Gaston custom knives with amazing Sambar Stag. Mr. Gaston always was known to have the best Stag in the business and I spoke to another Maker recently that remembered when he saw Ron purchase almost $20,000 worth of Stag at one time. Now THAT is stocking up folks. I was sad to hear of Mr. Gastons passing and I am glad that we have his knives still around to speak to us.
I'm very excited to also add a new Company's items for my customers. If you hav enot heard of EXOTAC yet you will - here is their website http://www.exotac.com/ They have quickly built a following in the Survival / Preparedness community of having an excellent product. Jason Klass who runs a gear Blog had this to say - "I have finally found a better flint than my Light My Fire Scout. The EXOTAC nanoStriker is lighter and more compact."
Do a Search for the youtube reviews of the EXOTAC products. Look for both the MatchCap and the nanoStriker on http://www.forthenrycustomknives.com/
We were fortunate to have a wonderful Period piece by Rich McDonald. This knife and sheath combo were simply gorgeous. The customer who purchased it stated he felt that this McDonald knife and sheath were "Winkler/Shook quality at an attainable price". I couldn't agree more. Lok for more Rich McDonald knives on my site soon!
For those that like Damascus we have just received some knives from Herb Derr. We have been a Dealer for Mr. Derr for about seven years and have seen his work grow in popularity with collectors each year. Mr. Derr is arguably the most reasonably priced Damascus Maker in the knife world today. We will also pick up more knives from Mr. Derr at the BLADE show this year so check back with us in June.
Finally, we purchased a large collection of Custom Hunting knives that I will be listing. We were lucky enough to get not one byt two Ralph Freer knives in that collection. Both are amazing in quality and detail on the knives and the Sheaths. If you are fan of the late Mr. Freer please check these out.
Thanks as always for reading and drop me a line if you want to chat knives.

Knife Related Publications
Well, since this is my Soapbox I guess it;'s OK for me to preach.
I would like to tell you what I think of most of the current knife related publications.
Knife Magazines
Like the Car Industry when I refer to Knife Magazines I'm pretty much reffering to the Big Three:
BLADE
Tactical Knives
Knives Illustrated
Now some of you already know this so please forgive me if I am preaching to the Choir. But I feel the need to tell folks there is a White Elephant in the room and while some may not care nor want to see it there might be just one who will benefit.
The focus of knife Magazines is not to inform you the reader of too terrbily much, it is to Sell. Sell, Magazines, Advertisment Space, the idea that newer is better... oh and Knives.
The Knife manufacturers are paying these Magazines good money to advertise as well as ccasionally paying them to write an Article or Review on their latest offering. The Magazines then pay the Writers, (you didn't think the Writers worked for free did you) and so it goes..
Mostly what you can expect from any of these Monthly publications are glowing reviews of the latest and greatest from all the big names (and even some of the smaller names that realized what was going on and decided that in order to increase Sales they must run with the big dogs).
Oh, the writers may toss in some bits of information to insure the Reader knows of their Cutlery related information prowess - but by and large the main objective is to get you seperated from your Cash - ie. for you to purchase the knife they are reviewing /using at that time.
If you have been to my Website at Fort Henry Custom Knives you will know that I currently only subscribe to one Monthly knife related publication and that is Knife World. I feel that K.W. is as unbiased as a publication can be and they offer Articles whose basis is actual research by the Authors - often several years of research. I have written for Knife World and can attest to the research involved.
Here is a challange, go to your local Barnes & Noble and take a look at the Knife related Magazines there. Then Call or email Knife World, ask them for a Sample issue - tell them that VINCE sent ya and decide for yourself.
Annual Knife Publications
Here I will refer to the Knive's Annuals series.
I have almost the whole collection with only 2 vacancies of the early publications. The earlier Editions had informative Articles of Knife Content, each delivering in depth accounts of knives from a Historical perspective, a Geographical perspective and from a users perspective.
In several ways the only Positive I can mention in the last few years was the "all color" advancement. Starting with the 2005 Edition the Knives Annuals have continued to degrade in quality knife journalism and broad pictorials of knives of every kind.
The "articles" have fallen to almost exclusively propoganda type glowing critiques featuring whoever the latest Hot/Trend Makers are (both prod and Custom) - often these are written by a Maker who inserts their own work into the Article while still giving accolades to their Buds. I will admit to an occasional exception - like the article "The perfect Survival knife" by James Ayres 2006, or even shockingly two articles in the 2009 Annual - "Dining Knives in the Folds of Sashes" by Leslie Clary and "Confederate Edges Weapons" by Edward Crews. However, the majority of Articles still swim in the stream of Sales/Promotion.
The Knife/pictorial content has drifted into this same current as the Articles - the same Popular few Makers being featured year after year. These Makers often having multiple knives featured in many different sections. There are even cases where the same picture of the same knife is used in different categories from one year to the next.
With the advancement of moving the publication to all color there seemed to be an underlying drive to feature more and more Art than knives. Handles containing intricate detailed scrimshaw, canned Nitre treated Damascus patterned blades, thousand year old dyed handle materials and sci-fi designs sculpted in colorful Anodized Titanium. Almost completely absent are "standard" grade custom cutlery offerings that were at one time the meat and potatoes of the Annuals. Rare is the picture of a custom, affordable Hunting knife made by a Stock Removal maker that is actually made to be used (there are one maybe two exemptions in this arena I can think of). There is room in this publication for ALL knife pictorial Chapters, not just Art that happens to have an Edge.
One of the things that most readers were most aggrieved by - which was the wrong name being attached to the wrong pictures - in the 2007 & 2008 Annuals seems to have been corrected in 2009.
I will not give or withhold a recommendation, it is up to each of us to decide whether something is worth the money we spend. I will leave you with my opinion of the current publication and you can decide for yourself.
